Firefox 3.0 является самым быстрым браузером по оценкам JavaScript SunSpider. Защита от сайтов, устанавливающих вирусы, трояны, шпионы и т.д. выделена в отдельную базу и настройки. Новый менеджер загрузок и улучшения в менеджере дополнений. Подкасты и видеокасты могут быть ассоциированы с медиа-плеерами. Разные темы для разных платформ, с улучшенной интеграцией с системными. Улучшен поиск по посещенным сайтам. Увеличение скорости и сокращенное использование памяти. Улучшения в диалоговом окне информации о сайте. В бета-версиях изменён формат выпадающего списка автодополнения адресов по умолчанию, и улучшен алгоритм автодополнения. К beta 4 реализована зависимость позиции результата от того, что выбирает пользователь, введя определённую поисковую строку. Добавлена возможность использовать системные настройки доступа через прокси?сервер (переменная среды $http_proxy) на платформе GNU/Linux, и радио?кнопка для её выбора в соответствующем диалоге, отображающаяся только если переменная установлена. Расширение «DOM Inspector» убрано из стандартной поставки. Предполагается сделать его доступным на https://addons.mozilla.org/ Существуют официальные версии для Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, и неофициальные для OS/2, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris и других операционных систем.
